Summer Renovations to Rave About
As the weather gets nicer and the flowers start to bloom, many homeowners will begin their summer projects. While some homeowners are DIY enthusiasts, others opt for professional work done by a contractor. Since summer is a busy time for contractors, it’s recommended to reach out to your local one now before their schedule fills up. Bathroom and kitchen remodels aren’t the only projects contractors do, but are the ones that get talked about the most. Today, we’re diving into the lesser-known areas of work that contractors do.
Lighting
The lighting in your home is much more than just the light bulbs in their sockets. Lighting incorporates the design and fixtures themselves that must be installed and connected to your home's electrical system. Oftentimes, when contractors replace light fixtures during a renovation, they’ll replace all of them. Much like how contractors are booked to change all the doorknobs in one's house, they can also replace all the light fixtures. Sometimes replacing a light fixture requires more than simply swapping out the old one and installing the new one. If the new fixtures' shape and size require drywall to be cut and patched, it’s less DIY friendly. In turn, homeowners choose to have a professional do the work.
Patio/Deck
Contractors are often called to job sites in the summer, where the homeowner requests a new deck or patio. Sometimes even both. Patios and decks must be level when they’re built so that the flooring is not angled and matches the house. A level patio will also prevent water from pooling at the center and causing damage. Decks that are properly supported can last many years and withstand severe storms.
Flooring
Flooring is one of the easiest projects to transform your home. Whether you want to remove the laminate flooring you have and install vinyl or hardwood, new flooring instantly makes a house feel more modern and refreshed. Nowadays, lighter, more white-toned floors are in style. Trends change rather quickly, considering just a few years ago, darker floors with grey walls were all the rage.
Windows
Often overlooked, windows are a great summer project for contractors to do. Depending on the material, windows can last roughly 25 years. With modern technology, wooden window frames are not seen nearly as much due to the increase in vinyl. Vinyl can withstand the harshest environments and is resistant to pests. Ants and termites will not eat vinyl, and since vinyl is a plastic-based material, it won’t soak up any rain either. If you believe you might need new windows, now’s a great time to get new ones.
The projects listed in this article only shine a light on a few of the other areas in which contractors work. Contractors can also replace trim, paint, build sheds or garages, or even refinish stone walls. Each home renovation should be discussed with a professional who can make sure the proper design and building codes are met for the job.
